Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) can be prescribed in the clinic.
Occupational HIV PEP is recommended for healthcare personnel who have an occupational exposure to blood, tissue, or other body fluids that may contain human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Non-occupational HIV PEP is recommended for those who have an exposure that occurs outside of one’s work, for example during sex or when people share needles to inject drugs.
Occupational PEP is free. However, non-occupational PEP is not.
